National Office announces creation of NJCAA Racial Equality Subcommittee
NJCAA Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council adds subcommittee
Charlotte, NC – As the nation navigates its way through social movements, the NJCAA is taking action within our association. In a unified effort with the NJCAA Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council, the NJCAA has announced the formation of the NJCAA Racial Equality Subcommittee. This committee begins its important work in September 2020.
"The Racial Equality Subcommittee is a fitting next step in building the core values of equity, diversity and inclusion into our association and advancing our mission to educate, empower, and engage our members," stated Kerri-Ann McTiernan, NJCAA Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Chair. "I am inspired by our country's call to action and by the NJCAA's response. I enthusiastically encourage all our members to become vocal and active contributors towards putting these critically important ideals into practice."
The subcommittee becomes the first of its kind under the NJCAA Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council, serving as another pathway to increase involvement through actions as part of a larger initiative. The subcommittee, like the council, is made up of a multitude of individuals from NJCAA member colleges and the NJCAA National Office to foster various levels of insight, inclusivity, and association-wide involvement.
"This work has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember and it has never been more important than it is now," stated Jeff White, Esq, NJCAA Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Council representative. "Dr. Christopher Parker's commitment to this work is one of the primary reasons why I joined the NJCAA and the creation of this subcommittee to support the larger Equity & Inclusion Council is further proof of that commitment. Much good work has been done, and I fully anticipate great things coming in the very near future."
The NJCAA values equity, diversity, and inclusion as organizational values and is committed to thoughtfully and intentionally creating pathways to deliver actionable outcomes for its member colleges in these areas.
