Charlotte, NC - Jay Scrubb, former standout men's basketball student-athlete at John A. Logan (IL) was picked up by the Brooklyn Nets (NY) in the second round, 55th overall, of the 2020 NBA Draft Wednesday night and has reportedly been traded to the LA Clippers (CA). Scrubb is the first NJCAA basketball member to hail from junior college since Donta Smith of Southeastern Illinois in 2004.
The Louisville, KY native spent two years in Carterville, IL with the Vols earning First-Team NJCAA All-American honors in each of his two seasons and earned NJCAA Player of the Year honors in 2020. As a sophomore, Scrubb finished in the association's top-20 in total points, free throws, and field goals made while leading the Vols to a 28-5 record, including an 18-0 mark in region competition. Scrubb led the Vols to a 28-5 record in the 2019-20 season, including an 18-0 mark in Region XXIV's Great Rivers Athletic Conference. The undefeated conference slate marks the first in Vols program history. In 2019-20, Scrubb averaged 21.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 50.1% from the field John A. Logan ended the season on an 11-game win streak before COVID-19 cut the championship season short.

Upon rounding out his NJCAA career, Scrubb committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Louisville (KY) before declaring for the NBA Draft. The NJCAA caught up with John A. Logan Head Coach Kyle Smithpeter ahead of the draft to get his thoughts on the NBA prospect. "I'm extremely excited for Jay, not just for Jay and John A. Logan but also for junior college sports. Jay did such a good job of positioning himself with the possibility to be an NBA draft pick. We're all waiting in anticipation to see where he might land. Regardless we're so proud of Jay for completing his associate's degree, balancing academics and workouts so just really excited to see what tonight will bring!"
The 2020-21 NBA season is set to begin on Tuesday, December 22 and will feature a 72-game schedule. The full regular-season will be released at a future date.
