Eight inducted into Men's Lacrosse Hall of Fame

Charlotte, NC – The NJCAA has announced eight honorees to be inducted into the NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame. One coach and seven student-athletes have been enshrined in the honorable 2023 class. Read below for more on Mike Villano, Billy Sadtler, Ramar Clash, Jon Beard, Andy Martin, Derrick Allender, Evan Kay, and Andy Bishop.


Mike Villano | Coach | Onondaga Community College (NY)

Mike Villano helped build the men's lacrosse program at Onondaga Community College. Over 18 years, Villano has helped coach the Lazers to a 266-15 record consisting of 11 national titles and a 107-game win streak. He served as an assistant coach as well as the defensive coordinator and recruiter for Onondaga.

Villano attended Herkimer Community College where he was a two-time All-American and the National Defensive Player of the Year. He was also a member of the 1996 National Championship team. After Herkimer, Villano attended DI school Hobart College where he was a two-year starter and North-South All-American Games Player.

Villano currently serves as the Assistant Varsity Boys Lacrosse coach for the Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars Boys Lacrosse program.


Andy Martin | Student-Athlete | CCBC Essex (MD)

Andy Martin attended CCBC Essex where he played midfield for the Knights for two seasons. He was a two-time All-American, 1991 NJCAA National Champion, and 1991 NJCAA Tournament Offensive MVP. Martin was also awarded All Maryland JUCO Conference honors twice and was a two-time All-Region 20 recipient.


Billy Sadtler | Student-Athlete | CCBC Essex (MD)

Billy Sadtler played for CCBC Essex men's lacrosse team for two seasons. Throughout his athletic career at CCBC Essex, Sadtler was a 2004 National Champion, two-time first-team All-American, and a 2004 NJCAA Tournament Defensive MVP. He was also a two-time All-Maryland JUCO Conference recipient and two-time All-Region 20 honoree.


Derrick Allender | Student-Athlete | CCBC Essex (MD)

Derrick Allender was a member of the Knights men's lacrosse team from 1989-1991. He was a 1991 NJCAA National Champion, 1991 NJCAA Player of the Year, and a two-time All-American. Throughout his career at CCBC Essex, Allender was also a two-time All-Maryland JUCO Conference first-team awardee and two-time All-Region 20 recipient. He was also named to the NJCAA All-National Tournament team twice.

During his time at Essex, Allender lead the Knights to an undefeated (16-0) season and first ever NJCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship in 1991. Allender was inducted into the CCBC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.


Jon Beard | Student-Athlete | CCBC Essex (MD)

Jon Beard was a part of the CCBC Essex team from 2003-2005, where he led the team to the 2005 NJCAA championship game. Beard was a two-time NJCAA All-American, named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team, voted NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year, and first-team All-Region and All-Maryland JUCO awardee. He was also a 2003 Washington Post honorable mention All-Met, 2003 All-Anne Arundel County selection by public school coaches, and 2003 Baltimore Sun second-team All-County.

In 2005, Beard scored 18 goals and added 4 assists in just seven games. After CCBC Essex, Beard moved on to play lacrosse at the University of Maryland for two seasons.


Evan Kay | Student-Athlete | CCBC Essex (MD)

Evan Kay played for CCBC Essex for two seasons where he was a 2004 NJCAA Champion and a two-time All-American. Kay was named All-Maryland JUCO twice as well as All-Region 20 twice throughout his career.


Andy Bishop-Woelfel | Student-Athlete | CCBC Essex (MD)

Andy Bishop-Woelfel played for the men's lacrosse team from 2004-2005. He was a 2004 NJCAA National Champion, named 2004 NJCAA Tournament Offensive MVP, and was an All-American. Woelfel was also named All-Maryland JUCO and All-Region 20 player.


Ramar Clash | Student-Athlete | Anne Arundel Community College (MD)

Ramar Clash was a member of the Riverhawks Men's Lacrosse team for two seasons. Clash was a first-team All-American and won the NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship title with Anne Arundel in 1998. After Arundel, he transferred to Hofstra University where he played for two years. Clash went on to play at the professional level for the New York Saints, the New York Lizards, and the Washington Bayhawks.
