Charlotte, NC – The NJCAA has announced three honorees to be inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. One student-athlete and two coaches have been honored. Read below for more on Mary Young, Kiko Benoit, and Jill Hoeck.
Mary Young | Coach | Central Community College-Columbus (NE)
Mary Young is in her 28th year as head coach of the Central Community College volleyball team and stepped into the role of Athletic Director in 2019. Young has a record of 779-415. Under her leadership the Raiders have won 17 Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference Championships, 14 Region 9 Championships, and appeared in 12 NJCAA national tournaments. Young has been named AVCA West Region Coach of the Year three times, Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year 14 times, and NJCAA Region 9 Coach of the Year 16 times. She also received the NJCAA Sportsmanship Award in 2014 and was the Omaha World-Herald Midlands Coach of the Year finalist in 2018.
On a national level, Young has served on several NJCAA committees including DII Volleyball and Beach Volleyball as well as chaired both committees. She has worked as an Assistant Region Director, Region Director, and Board of Regent members. Young is also credited with co-editing the writing legislation for the addition of beach volleyball as an NJCAA sport.
Young has coached 97 All-Conference players, 90 All-Region, 25 All-Americans, and three AVCA All-Americans.
Kiko Benoit | Coach | Miami Dade
Kiko Benoit is in his 17th year as the head coach of the Miami Dade volleyball team. He currently has an overall coaching record of 534-104. Prior to stepping into the role of head coach, Benoit served as the assistant coach for 10 years. As an assistant coach the Sharks compiled a record of 441-85 and won four national titles.
Under his leadership the Sharks have won 14 state titles, two national championships, and finished runner-up in the NJCAA national tournament six times. Benoit has also assisted in helping several student-athletes to the four-year DI level as well as professionally throughout Europe and Latin America.
Benoit has been named the FCSAA DI Coach of the Year, Southern Conference Coach of the Year, and State Coach of the Year 13 times. He has also been awarded the AVCA Northeast/Southeast Region Coach of the Year five times, AFLC Southeastern Region Assistant Coach of the Year once, and was the AVCA National Coach of the Year in 2017.
Jill Hoeck | Student-Athlete | Indian Hills (IA)
Jill Hoeck was a member of the Indian Hills volleyball team for two seasons. During this time, Hoeck received NJCAA First-Team All-American, AVCA first-team All-American, NJCAA National Tournament Outstanding Setter, and NJCAA Region 11 First-Team honors. In 2013 she was inducted into the Indian Hills Athletics Hall of Fame.
As a member of the Warriors volleyball team, Hoeck led the team to back-to-back NJCAA Region 11 District Championships as well as to consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearances where they placed third and fifth. In 2004 she was named the Most Outstanding Setter with 214 assists and in 2005 was once again named the Most Outstanding Setter with 199 assists. Hoeck holds the school record with a total of 3,254 assists and is in the top five single season school record for assists.
After Indian Hills, Hoeck transferred to the University of North Carolina-Wilmington where she made all 63 starts for the Seahawks and played in 223 sets.
