Charlotte, NC – Iowa Western setter Yadhira Anchante has been named the 2021 NJCAA Division I Volleyball Player of the Year, presented by the Marines.

Anchante receives the top individual honor for the second consecutive season after helping the Reivers win back-to-back NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship titles. The sophomore led the nation throughout the season with 11.34 assists per set and ranked second in the nation with 1,554 total assists. Anchante also recorded 94 total blocks, 477 digs, and a .261 hitting percentage.

"Yadhira has been such a special player for us the last two seasons," said Iowa Western head coach Alicia Williams. "She is more than deserving for this award. Her unwavering consistency, high IQ, selflessness and competitive drive make her one of the best athletes to walk through Iowa Western's doors. We are so thrilled for her!"

In her sophomore campaign, Anchante led the Reivers to a 33-4 record and the program's third volleyball national title. The 6-foot setter was named the Dorothy L. Brown Most Valuable Player of the national tournament, averaging 12.4 assists per set while totaling 74 digs with 13 blocks in four games.

In addition to earning tournament MVP, Anchante was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Year, earned First Team NJCAA All-America honors and First Team All-Region 11 honors.

Undecided, the Peruvian National Team player is a highly touted talent being recruited by some of the top NCAA Division I programs.
