Madison sweeps their way to first DIII volleyball national title

CHAMPIONSHIP HOME - BRACKET

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Madison (Wis.) claimed their first NJCAA DIII Volleyball National Championship Saturday with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) win over No. 3 seed Ridgewater (Minn.). The top-seeded WolfPack swept all three opponents they faced at the UCR Regional Sports Center.

Madison’s effort was highlighted by the performance of sophomore outside hitter Terissa Bierd who was named the tournament MVP. WolfPack head coach Toby Parker was named Coach of the Tournament after leading Madison to the national title in his ninth season at the helm. Sophomores Elizabeth Mahsem and Danielle Crawford were joined by freshmen Mikayla Nigl and Hannah Graham.

The WolkPack began their run Friday morning with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-15) win over Fashion IT (N.Y.) in the quarterfinals. In their second game of the day, Madison locked up a spot in the title match with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-13) semifinal victory over SUNY-Adirondack (N.Y.).

Madison capped off their 2013 season with 21-straight victories for a final record of 34-3. Ridgewater’s loss dropped them to 23-10 for the year.
