Two coaches two former teammates into NJCAA HOF

Charlotte, NC – Two former teammates and two coaches are members of the latest class inducted into the NJCAA Women's Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Bill Tolstedt was the head coach at Schoolcraft College for 10 seasons from 1997-2006. During that span, Tolstedt amassed 191 victories for an average of nearly 20 per season.

For eight consecutive seaons, Tolstedt's squads won Region XII championships and six of those made the national tournament. In the 2003 and 2004 tournaments, the Ocelots took third place. This span also included nine consecutive years that Ocelots spent in the NJCAA rankings.

Tolstedt was the coach of 18 NJCAA All-Americans and also served as the NJCAA Coaches Association President during his time in Livonia, MI.

Kathy (Insel) Brown founded and guided the Young Harris women's soccer program to national prominence.

Coming to Young Harris in 1997, Brown got the ball rolling immediately for the Mountain Lions. In just her third year at the helm, Brown got her first team to the NJCAA Women's Soccer Championship tournament in 1999. Young Harris would qualify for five of the next six tournaments, including three top-three finishes and winning the 2006 championship.

The 2006 team shutout all three opponents faced at the national tournament: defeating No. 7 Harford 3-0, No. 3 Schoolcraft 2-0, and No. 5 Iowa Western 2-0.

Brown's teams were known for their high-powered offenses. Two-time All-American Roberta Pelarigo finished as the offensive champion in both 2003 and 2004. Her 2003 mark of 74 goals scored still stands as a record today. Brown's 2003 team recorded 200 goals in a season, which stands as second all-time.

Compiling a record of 224-39-9 in her decade at Young Harris, Brown ranks in the top-15 all-time in the NJCAA women's soccer coaching ranks. Brown currently serves as the head coach at NCAA DII Lock Haven.

Deborah Smith and Kelly Trapp were teammates at Champlain College for one of the program's championship teams.

Deborah Smith played for and captained the Champlain women's team for the 1993 and 1994 seasons. The recipient of multiple honors in her two years there, the highlights include NJCAA/NSCAA First Team All-American honors in both seasons as well as NJCAA National Championship MVP in the 1994 season.

Smith continued her career at the University of South Carolina, where she garnered captain status for both years in Columbia along with First Team All-SEC accolades both seasons. Smith still holds single-game records at USC for goals, points, and shots. After her collegiate playing career, Smith went into coaching leading programs at the high school, collegiate, and club levels.

Kelly Trapp began her journey at Champlain in the 1994 season. Coupled with Smith as a teammate, Champlain won the NJCAA national championship after taking down SUNY Farmingdale, Monroe CC, and powerhouse Brevard in successive order.

A year younger than her counterpart, Trapp would captain the 1995 Champlain team before also heading down to South Carolina to complete her college career. Trapp captained the 1997 South Carolina team.

Both were coached at Champlain by recent NJCAA Hall of Fame inductee Susan Rand.
