Charlotte, NC – The NJCAA has announced two honorees to be inducted into the 2024 NJCAA Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame class. Two student-athletes have been enshrined. Read below for more on Courtney Highsmith and Jenny Deans.
Courtney Highsmith | Student-Athlete | Anne Arundel (MD)
Courtney Highsmith was a two-way midfielder for the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks for two seasons. She helped lead the team to back-to-back NJCAA National Championship titles in 2006 and 2007. Highsmith was a two-time first-team All-Region, two-time first-team All-MD JUCO, and a two-time first-team All-American. In 2007, she was named the Offensive MVP of the NJCAA national tournament and ended her career with 84 goals and 17 assists. Highsmith was also a member of the 2006 Anne Arundel women's soccer team.
After Anne Arundel, Highsmith played two years at Siena College where she was a member of the 2008 MAAAC All-Academic team. In 2010 and 2011, she made her way back to Anne Arundel as a volunteer assistant coach.
Jenny Deans | Student-Athlete | Anne Arundel (MD)
Jenny Deans played two seasons at Anne Arundel as a member of the women's lacrosse team. During her time there, she was an All-American and a member of the All-Region and All-MD JUCO team. In 2005, Deans also earned All-Academic honors. While a member of the Riverhawks, Deans was the captain for both seasons. Known as one of the cornerstones of the beginning of the women's lacrosse program, Deans was known for the way she conducted herself on the field.
Deans continued her collegiate career at Pfeiffer University where she was a member of the 2006 and 2007 CVAC All-Tournament and in her second season also made CVAC first team and was named the CVAC Player of the Year.
