CHAMPIONSHIP HOME – MEN’S RECAP – COMPLETE RESULTS – PHOTOS
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Continuing their dominance of the sport, Erie (N.Y.) won the NJCAA women’s bowling championship Saturday. The Kats’ victory at Thruway Lanes extended their NJCAA record to 28 women’s bowling titles.
Erie knocked down 12,476 pins across the tournament – 385 more than Highland (Ill.) who took second place. Schenectady County (N.Y.) racked up 11,878 pins to edge out Iowa Central for a third place finish. Rounding out the top five was Hudson Valley (N.Y.) with 11,242 pins.
The Kats were led by freshman Gabrielle Damin whose 192.5 average earned her the all-events title. Erie also saw freshman Elizabeth Szpara take third with a 183.8 average, while freshman Lizzy Golubski’s 182.0 average added a fourth-place finish for the Kats. Erie freshman Tallie Papke also contributed with a ninth-place performance, averaging 177.6 pins for the tournament.
Damin and Szpara took the doubles crown after taking out 1,113 pins. Szpara also took second place in the singles event, finishing just two points behind Iowa Central sophomore Dawn Blomker’s 611.
