Chipola guard Kanija Daniel named 2024-25 NJCAA DI Women's Basketball Player of the Year

Charlotte, NC: Chipola (FL) sophomore guard Kanija Daniel has been named the 2024-25 NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Year.

Daniel was 11th overall in the nation, scoring 19.6 points per game and averaging 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. They also shot 34.2% from the 3-point line and 40.4% from the field.

"We are extremely proud of all the hard work and sacrifice she put into our program this season. We are so happy that she has received this prestigious award. Kanija earned this award last summer working in the gym," Chipola head women's basketball coach Mitch Rolls.

The sophomore transferred to Chipola from Georgia Southern University and was a key piece for the top-ranked Indians. Daniel scored 20+ points 16 times and 30+ points three times, including a season-high 36 points on January 6th.

Daniel led the Indians to a South Atlantic District Championship over then-No. 1 Northwest Florida State. Chipola held the Raiders to a three-point first quarter and 14 in the first half. They won the game 58-41, and Daniel scored 22 points and 9 rebounds.

Chipola earned the top overall seed in the 2025 Credit Union 1 NJCAA Women's Basketball Championship and a first-round bye. The Indians fell in the quarterfinals to eventual National Runner-up Shelton State (AL).

Daniel was named a 2025 NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball First-Team All-American selection earlier this week. They were also named the Panhandle Conference Player of the Year on March 9th.

"She worked her tail off to transform her game and made herself the best player in the country. To see it pay off for Kanija now makes this award extremely special to our coaching staff. Nobody deserves this award more than Kanija Daniel! Thank you #21," Rolls said.
