Johnson County's Jaylen Townsend takes home DII Player of the Year honors

Charlotte, NC – Jaylen Townsend of Johnson County (KS) has been named the 2021 NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Year presented by the Marines.

The standout guard played a vital role in the team's success, helping the Cavaliers to a 22-2 overall record. Johnson County made it to the 2021 NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship final where they were defeated by Lake Land. In the championship semifinal, Townsend posted 11 points and eight rebounds to guide the Cavs' to their first championship appearance since 2017.

The sophomore helped contribute to the Cavaliers' top-15 offense, putting up 14.8 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field. Townsend also shot an impressive 88.6 percent from the charity stripe, good for eighth in the league.
