Cox inducted into Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Charlotte, NCThe NJCAA has announced Dr. Donald Cox as the latest inductee to the NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  For more than 30 years, Cox has been a dedicated coach and continuous supporter in the world of NJCAA cross country.

Cox began his NJCAA cross country coaching career in 1991.  Throughout his tenure, the student-athletes he coaches succeeded on the courts and in the classroom.  Cox's squads earned a No. 1 ranking in the Coaches Association Academic Team ranking in 2005, 2013, and 2016.  From 2002-2020, Cox's teams earned nine top-10 finishes in the Coaches Association Academic Team Ranking.  Cox coached 73 Country Individual Coaches Association Academic All-Americans from 1993-2020.  Cox also coached five NJCAA Cross County All-Americans.  

Within the NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association, Cox has served in many capacities including secretary (2000-12), president (2013-21), and a member of the hall of fame committee (2000-22).  Cox also served as vice president of the NJCAA Track & Field Coaches Association from 2016-22.  Cox served as the NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association representative with USTFCCCA from 2014-22. 

As a supporter of NJCAA cross country, Cox has had an impact on several major milestones in the sport including the development of half marathon as an official championship sport in 2003 and Division II cross country being reinstated in the NJCAA in 2020 after being discontinued in 2003.  Throughout his time as an NJCAA cross country contributor, Cox has been involved in with working with the USTFCCCA to gain full membership for two-year college coaches, developing legislative recommendations for the NJCAA Cross Country and Half Marathon Sport Code, serving as a national championship site evaluator, and helping to coordinate numerous national championship events.
