NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Championship - Media Policies

MEDIA PASSES/CREDENTIALS

  • Arrangements for media passes for members of the press -- both in advance and during the Tournament -- should be made through the following link: NJCAA Championship Media Credential Request Form
  • Participating teams should include sports information directors and other college media as part of their team travel party.  Media credential requests will need to be approved by the NJCAA and Media Information Committee Chairman.
    • Note: Completing this form is a request only and does not confirm that a media credential will be received. The NJCAA National Office or the Championship Host will follow up directly regarding the status of your credential request and next steps.

Eligible Media: Subject to limitations of space, credentials may be issued to working members of the media representing recognized outlets in the business of news gathering as their primary source of revenue. This includes a daily or weekly publication, cable system, radio station, television station or television network, or online entity requiring immediate news coverage. Immediate news coverage for purposes of these criteria shall mean that the editorial, audio and/or visual deadline for the championship action being documented occurs not later than 48 hours after the competition at the site has been completed.

  • Representatives of national media outlets
    • Reporters from a weekly or monthly national publication that covers collegiate athletics extensively.
    • Reporters, photographers, and couriers from national publications, online entities, broadcast networks, and wire services that covers the collegiate sport consistently on a national basis.
    • An individual or crew designated by a national television network or cable system that originates daily sports news programs.
    • The designated representative of a national television, cable system, radio network, or a radio station that originates a daily “sports talk” program.
    • An online entity that covers the respective sport at the collegiate level on a consistent basis with exclusive content.
    • Full-time reporters representing international agencies that regularly cover the sport.  
  • Media agencies in the geographic area and/or locale of a participating institution that has staffed its contests on a consistent basis throughout the season.
    • Online writers, daily print reporters, and photographers from the local host and participating team markets who regularly cover collegiate athletics (i.e. cover the vast majority of a participating or host institution’s home games).
    • Individuals, certified by a participating institution, who will represent specific campus-related entities (e.g., student newspapers, television stations and radio stations) that are affiliated with a participating or host institution.
    • An individual or television crew, certified by a participating institution, who will represent campus-related entities.  
    • Team content providers, including team photographers and team videographers.
    • Participating team radio networks.

Championship media credentials WILL NOT be issued to spouses, guests, or children of media members; representatives of syndicated television or cable programmers who are not producing programs for immediate news coverage (i.e., to air within 48 hours); podcasts which do not fall under credential policies and guidelines listed above; agents; scouts and other representatives of professional organizations; and publications devoted solely to gambling. 

Freelance reporters or photographers will not be credentialed unless they are working under a specific assignment. Credential applications must be submitted by the sports editor, sports director/producer, photo editor or participating institution representative.

Having been credentialed for previous NJCAA championships or other events DOES NOT automatically qualify an agency or individual for credentials.  

TOURNAMENT MEDIA CENTER

  • Room No. 128, located off the Sports Arena’s North hallway, is utilized for distribution of media passes, as a press workroom with wireless access to internet service, and as a Tournament general information center throughout Tournament Week. In addition, this room will serve as a hospitality center for the working press at designated times during Tournament week.

TV BROADCASTING/TAPE DELAY BROADCASTING/VIDEO STREAMING

  • NJCAA holds the exclusive radio, television, and online video streaming rights for the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Live and archived feeds of each game will be available on the NJCAA Network – njcaa.org/network.
  • All live and archived broadcasts on the NJCAA Network are the exclusive property of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Any rebroadcast, retransmission or other use of NJCAA Network broadcasts without the written consent of the National Junior College Athletic Association is prohibited.

RADIO

  • KWBW, Hutchinson, Kansas, is the official radio station for the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament and will broadcast all games. Stations taking a feed from KWBW will be charged a fee of $250 per game.
  • Stations broadcasting with their own crews will be charged $300 per game. To make arrangements or to obtain additional information regarding feeds for stations sending their own crews, contact Glen Grunwald at 316-617-7004 or grunwald1995@outlook.com. Arrangements to broadcast must be made at least 12 hours prior to the start of any game.

PHOTOGRAPHERS

  • Each newspaper and college newspaper, if the college has a team in The Tournament, is entitled to one (1) working photographer pass. Upon presentation of proper identification, a photographer’s pass will be issued by The Tournament Information/ Media Chairman.
  • Photographers may take pictures or videos from the Arena playing floor only when wearing a media pass. Flash and strobe lights shall be used in a manner and at times that do not interfere with the play of the game. Photographers should familiarize themselves with use of press table restrictions provided elsewhere in this Bulletin.

COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS

  • Commercial photographers taking still shots of the game action and offering them for sale shall make advance arrangements with the Media Information Chairman and pay a fee of $75.00 for the right to do so.

USE OF PRESS TABLE

  • The press tables on the Sports Arena floor are for working press only. Only those persons assigned by the Media Information Chairman are allowed at the tables. Any NJCAA photographer or other person performing a function on behalf of the NJCAA is entitled to a seat at the press table subject to availability as determined by the Media Information Chairman.
  • Except for the last game of the day, assigned print media seats at the press table shall be vacated no later than ten (10) minutes following completion of each game to allow for new seat assignments. Broadcast media assigned seats, except the official NJCAA Radio Network, shall be vacated no later than thirty (30) minutes following the game’s completion.
  • Photographers may not take pictures from the press table. Downloading and transmitting pictures and recharging cameras are not allowed at the press table. The Tournament Media Center, Room 128, is the designated area at the Sports Arena for locating power strips for recharging cameras and transmitting photographs. Your cooperation is appreciated.
