NJCAA announces 2022-23 Committee Chairs

Charlotte, NC— The NJCAA has announced the 2022-23 Committee Chairs for the 46 committees. Each chair serves as a direct contact and liaison for the committee and the NJCAA National Office staff, while also heading their committee all year.

With the academic year approaching, chairs are preparing to lead weekly calls, conduct national rankings, and assist with postseason at-large and seeding selections, and All-America selections. In addition to these roles, chairs complete committee-related assignments and annual NJCAA Convention tasks. In some cases, chairs will attend their respective national championship(s).

On the women's side, Steve Winterling, Pasco-Hernando (FL) Athletic Director, is a first-time committee chair of the NJCAA Division II Softball Committee. Troy Larson, Iowa Lakes Athletic Director and men's basketball head coach, will lead the committee alongside Winterling as a first-time vice chair. Marci Henry, Northeastern (CO) Athletic Director and NJCAA Region 9 Board of Regents member, will head the NJCAA Beach Volleyball Committee with Megan Aiello, Spartanburg Methodist (NC) Athletic Director, as vice chair.

There are three first-time committee chairs on the men's side, including Deron Clark, NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Chair and New Mexico Athletic Director; Vince Gibson, NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Chair and Laramie County (WY) Assistant Athletic Director; and Steve Mullen, first-ever chair of the newly created NJCAA Division III Football Committee and Erie (NY) Athletic Director. The NJCAA Division I Football Chair is Jake Ripple, Dodge City (KS) Athletic Director and previous chair of the joint football committee. In July 2021, the NJCAA announced football would implement Divisions I and III and a new playoff system to create increased opportunities for the sport to flourish at the two-year level.

For the joint committees, Mike Belfiore, Westchester (NY) Athletic Director, is the new chair of the NJCAA Bowling Committee. Previously referred to as the NJCAA Championship Events Committee, the group has shifted to the NJCAA Championship and Sport Governance Committee to approve items and policies outside of championships throughout the year and regular seasons. Kevin Vest, Tyler (TX) Athletic Director, remains the chair of the committee.

For the emerging sports, Kurt Kohler, MCAC Executive Director, is the new NJCAA Men's Volleyball Committee Chair; Alison Mohr, Daytona State (FL) Associate Athletic Director, is the NJCAA Women's Flag Football Chair; and Brett Monaghan, Indian Hills (IA) Athletic Director, was selected to lead the NJCAA Women's Wrestling Committee as chair.

The NJCAA Division III Men's and Women's Golf Committee is now combined to assist with growing Division III Women's Golf, which was established in June 2021. New this academic year, the NJCAA Division I, Division II, and Division III Oversight Committees replaced the divisional councils, increasing from five to eight members each to represent all 24 Regions of the NJCAA.
