2023 NJCAA Convention Session Descriptions


Maximizing Technology to Rediscover the Love of the Game, Presented by PrestoSports

Most of us were attracted to sports for the love of competition – not the business. But there are a lot of similarities. From planning strategies to getting the word out about your program and driving revenue, to the actual execution, everyone is competing for time, eyeballs, and dollars. In this session, we'll share how to scale your resources, fund your program, and elevate your school's brand by leveraging a full sports technology platform, including AI advancements, enhanced stats integrations, and multi-screen streaming experiences. Emergency Preparedness in Today's Athletic World, Presented by USCAH & the NJCAA Welfare & Safety Council

Please join the NJCAA Welfare & Safety and the U.S. Council for Athletes' Health as we discuss best practices in the area of emergency action planning, emergency equipment, and the role of athletic administrators and coaches in this important area. We will also examine education, training, and preparation for athletic emergencies and how you can prepare your staff for these situations.

Speed Mentoring Roundtables

Mentors and mentees will discuss hiring and separating practices, climbing the ladder in your field, and strategic planning.  Mentors will spend an allotted time with mentees at tables and then rotate to the next mentee table. Mentees will be able to prompt questions pertaining to discussion topics.

Understanding the Impact of NIL on the NJCAA x the Partnership with Opendorse

The world of name, image, and likeness (NIL) has evolved drastically over the last 2 years. This education session will cover a variety of topics including the current state of NIL in the NJCAA; key data, trends, & the impact of education; the impact of NIL on recruiting; the impact of NIL on the lifecycle of an NJCAA student-athlete; the challenges & successes faced by student-athletes; how athletes are using NIL to prepare them for “the real world;” and how administrators are working with Opendorse to support their student-athletes in this new world.

Implementing Mental Health Support on a Budget: How to Meet Your Athletes & Coach's Needs, Presented by Cutler Wellness

Student-athlete mental health statistics, as well as the mental health, wants & needs data. We will discuss barriers that prevent small collegiate institutions from providing those resources. We will collaboratively discuss with participants ways some institutions have met a few of these needs.

Title IX Risk Management

Title IX – 37 words that impact the work we do with student-athletes. Attend this session to understand the what and why of existing issues, and how to spot red flags and address them. Scott Lewis will draw from the courts, the news, and his experiences working with athletic departments of all types across the country, as well as the Olympic movement. Bring your questions: there will be time for a question and answer session.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Training

This training is on being an equity, diversity, and inclusion ally. Enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion starts with a deep understanding of our own and others’ diversity thumbprint, with each individual’s cultural identity of multiple dimensions coexisting simultaneously. Attendees will explore the skills, actions, behaviors, and practices that can be taken to support others through allyship.
