NJCAA coaching icon Bob Kirk passes away

Colorado Springs, CO – Bob Kirk, a member of the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame and coaching icon passed away over the weekend. Kirk’s career spanned over 30 years at Allegany College of Maryland as both men’s basketball coach and director of health, physical education, and athletics.

Upon his retirement in 2012, Kirk established Allegany as a national powerhouse on the NJCAA men’s basketball scene. Kirk boasted a career record of 927-158, an average of 28 wins per season. Kirk’s career total of 927 wins ranks second all-time among NJCAA coaches while the 158 losses are the fewest among the top 25 coaches on the list.

Among his many accomplishments on the court, Kirk boasted a 129-game home winning streak between 1976 and 1987. Kirk mentored numerous All-Americans and a handful of future NBA picks including Steve Francis, Eric Mobley, and John Turner.

Kirk led Allegany to 12 national tournament berths, including two national title game appearances to go along with 17 Region XX titles and six district championships.
