WAUWATOSA, WI (November 4. 2018) - On Saturday the Bryant & Stratton College volleyball team competed in the opening round of the Region IV playoffs where they were halted in a 3-1 (25-15, 18-25, 19-25 and 23-25) defeat to Illinois Valley Community College. The Bobcats concluded their season at 15-11 overall and 14-7 in region play.
After completing their first regular season in program history, the Bobcats headed into the playoffs as the number three seed at 15-10 but could not withstand the play of the four seeded Illinois Valley Eagles who sent the Bobcats home early.
Prior to Saturday's contest, the Bobcats had won three of their last four matches and the momentum showed in the first set as they earned a commanding 25-15 victory.
"This is a tight group of athletes who call our team family," Curley said.
Despite solid play from the Bobcats, Illinois Valley responded to the challenge as they took matches two and three.
With their season on the line, the Bobcats rallied to tie match four up at 21-21 but failed to get over the hump as Illinois Valley took a 22-21 lead and never let up.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was All-Region player, Andrea Miranda, with 17 kills and 12 digs followed by Gabriela Lopez with 12 kills and 16 digs. All-Region setter, Evelis Vicenty, produced 46 assists and 10 digs.
Signing all six current players to National Letter of Intents for next season, Curley is excited to keep the core group together for one more year.
"The girls are all unselfish and really get along," Curley said. "They take pride not only on the court but in the classroom as well."
Curley will look to builld off of a succussful first season and is excited for the challenges of buillding a competitive program.
"I will continue to bring a great level of excitement to Bryant & Stratton and grow a competitive program," Curley said. "I am honored to be given this opportunity and to be able to build this program from the ground up. Leading this team is the highlight of my coaching career."
Season Accomplishments:
Team - ranked first in the region for services aces per set and fifth in service aces and assists.
Miranda - ranked fourth in the region for services aces per set and fifth in kills per set.
Vicenty - ranked fifth in the region in assists per set
