Lady Bucs Win Calhoun Spring Classic
Decatur- The Shelton State Lady Buccaneer golf team took home first place in the rain shortened Calhoun Women's Spring Classic held at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, AL. In doing so, the Lady Bucs moved back to number 1 in the nation in Division II. Heavy rain forced the first round cancellation, but Shelton State didn't let it affect their play. Peyton Maraman was low medalist with a 2 over par 74, her third win of the year. Sawer Hobbs took runner up with 75, Ashlee Allen 5th with a 78, Katie Hallmark 7th (82), Jordan Ransdell and Aubrie Medford tied for 8th (83), and Mia Hobbs shot 87 to tie for 16th. Sawyer Hobbs was chosen Player of the Week. It was the team's fifth team title of the year.
"I thought the girls handled the rain out pretty well. We have not played very well this spring, but they have been working on it, and that showed this week. The team seemed to have a better vibe and carried it to scores that we were shooting in the fall. Hopefully, that continues. I was proud of the team and the win."
The ACCC Championship is next on April 14-15 at Bent Brook Golf Club in Bessemer, AL. Shelton State will look to defend their title from a year ago.
