Reyes Rivera named Tachikara DII Player of the Year

Charlotte, NC - Coffeyville Community College sophomore Adianez Reyes Rivera has been named the 2018 Tachikara NJCAA Division II Volleyball Player of the Year.  

Reyes Rivera played a major role in leading the Red Ravens to back-to-back NJCAA Division II Volleyball national titles in 2017 and 2018.  The 2017 national championship marked the first in school history.  This year’s return to the national tournament was just the third time Coffeyville has qualified for the championship. 

As a consistent force on the outside, Reyes Rivera put up 16 matches with 20+ kills this season, out of 41 total games played.  On September 7th, she tallied a career-high 35 kills, with a 0.60 hitting percentage, in a Red Ravens four-set win.

  • "Coaching Adianez (Nani) has been nothing but amazing and fun. If anyone ever sees this girl play, they will know why she was given this award! She is a work horse.  When she first stepped on our campus, she had a swag about her, I knew then I was getting a jewel.  Very humble but also fierce.  Her teammates want to play like her and when the best is working extra hard, it makes everyone work hard.  I am honored and blessed to have coached one incredible young woman.  The sky is the limit for this girl."

  • "This award is the highest of the high, there are so many great players and I just can’t believe this.  Words can’t describe what these two years mean to me.  Playing for Coach Downing is something I will never forget.  I will never forget these past two years, it’s been the best ride ever.  I wish I could stay all four years as a Raven because it has taught me how to be strong and independent young woman.  I used to play volleyball for myself but now I play and practice hard for my teammates and coaching staff.  I now have two rings to show what hard work and determination will do if you put it in."
