Massasoit's Hawkins collects DIII Player of the Year

Charlotte, NC - Ty Hawkins of Massasoit (MA) has been announced the 2019-20 NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Year presented by TicketSmarter.

The standout guard was fundamental in the team's success, helping the Warriors to a 24-1 overall record. The lone loss came in the first game of the national tournament in Rockford, IL, falling to No. 8 Cedar Valley in a close matchup. In the final game of the season, Hawkins posted 19 points, two assists, and five rebounds.

The Jones (MS) transfer led the Warriors in points per game, free throws per game, and three-pointers per game for the season. One of Hawkin's most memorable performances of the season came during the thrilling NJCAA Region XXI Championship game, where she boasted 36 points and seven assists to help her team to Massasoit's second region title in program history.

"What makes Ty'zhea such a special player is she is a teammate first and relishes in the collective achievements of her team before any individual successes," said Massasoit head coach Mark Leszczyk.
