First-Year head coach receives top honor

Charlotte, NC - In just his first year as head coach at Western Tech (WI), Brent Thill has been named the 2019-20 NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Coach of the Year presented by TicketSmarter.

Thill's first season guided the Cavaliers to its best-ever finish, claiming the first national title in school history.  As the sixth-seeded team in Rockford, IL, Western Tech pulled off three consecutive upsets en route to the national title win. The Cavaliers capped the season with a 12-0 home record and an eight-game win streak. Thill coached his team to a 25-6 overall record. Thill also guided NJCAA Second Team All-American Caitlin Young throughout the 2019-20 season.

Prior to coaching at Western Tech, Thill was the assistant volunteer scouting coach for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team and prior to that, the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Lindenwood University's (IL) men's basketball team.

"It's a blessing and honor to win this award. The obstacles this team overcame throughout the year, make this even sweeter. A special thank you to my wife Nicole, and to our Athletic Director Dave Fish for letting me do what I love."
