Student-Athlete Welfare & Safety Council provides COVID-19 resources

Charlotte, NC - In partnership with the U.S. Council for Athletes' Health, the NJCAA Student-Athlete Welfare & Safety Council has provided additional resources for member college athletic directors, administrators, and coaches to utilize while returning to play during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.  

The USCAH Return to Sport: Health & Safety Framework  

  • The framework establishes six categories to ensure you have a plan, a "roadmap," to follow once campuses are opened for the return of students and staff and a safe return to sport participation.  The six categories of the USCAH Return to Sport: Health and Safety Framework is as follows:
    • Category 1: Development of Policies and Programming
    • Category 2: Personnel Education and Training
    • Category 3: Facility Preparation and Management
    • Category 4: Return to Campus Recommendations
    • Category 5: Training and Practice Modifications
    • Category 6: Sustaining Cultural Change

COVID Safety Recommendations: Return to Exercise Following COVID-19 Disruption

  • The recommendations outline the following:
    • Return to Exercise During/Following High-Risk Contact Quarantine  
    • Return to Exercise During/Following Isolation (Athlete Asymptomatic) 
    • Return to Exercise During/Following Isolation (Athlete Symptomatic) 

COVID Safety Recommendations: Team Travel and Logistics 

  • The recommendations outline the following:
    • Team Travel
    • Team Meals & Nutrition
    • Team Meetings & Media Interactions 
    • Screening & Testing Around Travel 

In December 2020, the NJCAA National Office provided a COVID-19 Guidelines & Recommendations document to assist regions, member colleges, administrators, and coaches in navigating the return to play amid the pandemic.  The NJCAA COVID-19 Guidelines & Recommendations - Spring 2021 document has been updated to include the additional USCAH resources.
