Triton's Amar Augillard named DI Men's Player of the Year

Charlotte, NC - Triton's Amar Augillard has been named the 2024 NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

The sophomore guard posted 841 points, 168 rebounds, 87 assists, 63 steals, and 20 blocks in 37 games played and started. Augillard's 841 points aided in the Trojans leading the nation in scoring with a total of 3401 points. In the national tournament alone, he totaled 107 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. In the national title game, Augillard was the third leading scorer on offense with 23 points while going 6-6 at the free-throw line.

Brian Burns, Head Coach- "I'm so happy for Amar. He had big goals when he came to Triton and he has achieved them and then some. He has seized this opportunity to show what a tremendous basketball player he is. He's conducted himself as a professional on and off the court all season. I'm beyond excited for him to pick his next spot and represent Triton College and the NJCAA in a positive light."

Augillard transferred to Triton after spending two seasons at Georgia Southern University. After redshirting his freshman season, Augillard played in 11 games for the Eagles posting 33 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists. He also shot 83% at the free-throw line.

During the national tournament, Augillard broke two Triton school records. He broke the Trojans' school record for most points in a single season with 841 points. The previous record has stood since the 1967-68 season, which was the very first season Triton had a men's basketball team. The previous school record was 789. Augillard also broke the Triton record for most three-point field goals made in a season with 122.

On top of ending his season as an NJCAA National Runner-Up, Augillard was named to the National Championship All-Tournament team and was chosen as a 2024 NJCAA DI Men's Basketball First-Team All-American.

Garrick Abezetian, Associate Vice President of Athletics- "Amar is a great basketball player, but most importantly a better individual. He will go down as one of the best men's basketball players to wear a Triton uniform. I am extremely proud of him being named NJCAA Division I Player of the Year and look forward to seeing what is next in his future."

Augillard is currently undecided on where he will continue his academic and athletic career but has received offers from more than ten NCAA Division I schools. He currently has offers from the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), Butler University, University of Louisiana-Monroe, Providence College, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Utah State University, and Texas A&M University.
