The Kats softball program ended the 2023 campaign on the right foot sweeping Tompkins Cortland Community College Tuesday afternoon on the road. Erie finished the year by winning four of their last six games.
In game one, Julia Kilonski led the way going 3 for 4. Sam Heppel, Kate Poitras and Alyssa Kilonski added 2 hits apiece with one of Kilonski's being a two bagger. Also chipping in with hits for the Kats were Samantha Wing, Emily Belile, Emma Poitras and Maddie Frost. Heppel recorded 9 K's in the circle in the Kats 14-5 victory through 6 innings.
In game 2 the bats stayed hot as the Kats would walk it off in the fifth on their way to a 10-2 victory. Emma Poitras who went 2-4 including a double when she wrapped a one hopper to third and with the bases loaded the Panthers couldn't complete the double play at the plate scoring Frost with the walk off. Julia Kilonski and Kate Poitras each hit Home-runs in the contest with Kilonski accounting for 4 RBI's. Alyssa Kilonski would add 2 hits. Other Kats adding to the hit parade were Giselle Rodriguez, Emily Krause and Frost. Sam Heppel had another strong outing in the circle striking out five and only allowing two earned runs on just four hits. Heppel would record 14 strikeouts on the day.
The Kats close out the 2023 season with an 8-12 record. In their last 4 victories the Kats outscored their opponents 54-17.
