Cowley wins second DII Women's Cross Country National Championship

Huntsville, AL – The Cowley (KS) Tigers have claimed the 2023 NJCAA Division II women's cross-country national championship. The second DII National Title in school history, and third overall.

The Tigers completed a historic performance, finishing the day with 66 team points. Heartland (IL) came in a close second with 71 points. Paradise Valley (AZ), Mesa (AZ), and Des Moines Area (IL) rounded out the top 5 finishers.

Lake Michigan's Olivia Ippel takes home the individual title

Lake Michigan freshman Olivia Ippen finished 9 seconds ahead of the remainder of the field, with a mark of 17:56.60.

Tigers narrowly win national title

Cowley was led by Dheniffer Vaz who earned a 5th place finish and time of 18:46.50. Freshman Kayli Myers, Leticia Belo, and Brittannia Willis all earned top 20 finishes for the Tigers.

Heartland finishes with 71 points, and a second-place finish

Heartland (IL) earned its third second-place finish in school history, falling just 5 points short of Cowley. Freshman Nora Brady ran an impressive race, coming in second place overall with a mark of 18:05.10

Sophomore Addysen Clark also earned All-America honors with a mark of 18:48.70, and a ninth place overall finish.

Paradise Valley finishes in Third Place

Paradise Valley's third-place finish since is the NJCAA DI Women's Cross Country national title in 2004.

Freshman Ava LaMilza earned a top-5 finish, with a mark of 18:27.00. Teammate Jazmin Estrada ran a mark of 19:01.80 and a 12th-place finish.
