Cavins receives top-honor after first season

Charlotte, NC - In his first year at the helm of the Bulldogs' program, Navarro's Andy Cavins has been named the Tachikara 2019 NJCAA Division I Coach of the Year.

Cavins quickly left his mark on the Navarro College (TX) record books, leading his team to a perfect 31-0 record and claiming the first volleyball national title in program history.  The title win is also the first by any female sport at the college.  The 2019 NJCAA DI Volleyball Championship tournament appearance in Hutchinson, KS marked the second ever by the Bulldogs.  Navarro's first appearance came in 2018 where they finished in 8th place.

At the national tournament, Cavins coached three players who were named to the All-Tournament Team: sophomore setter Emily Witt, sophomore middle blocker Deja Arnold, and sophomore outside Jordan Lockwood.  Lockwood was named the MVP of the 2019 NJCAA DI Volleyball Championship tournament.  Arnold and Lockwood each received additional post-season recognition, being named 2019 NJCAA DI Volleyball First Team All-Americans.

Prior to Navarro, Cavins was the head coach of Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY for eight seasons.  At Lindsey Wilson, Cavins accumulated a 272-38 record and led the Blue Raiders to eight consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances.
