Six picked to NJCAA Men's Golf CA HOF

Charlotte, NC - Six individuals have been inducted into the NJCAA Men's Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame after tremendous success and dedication to the sport. Two former student-athletes and four coaches, one of which also played at an NJCAA member college, have been honored. Read below for more on each 2022 inductee. 


Abraham Ancer | Odessa College (TX) 

Abraham Ancer started his golf career as a member of the Odessa College Men's Golf team in 2010. Throughout his lone year with the Wranglers, Ancer led all junior college golfers in the final Golfstat Cup standings and received multiple accolades. Ancer was named a first-team PING All-American, received the 2010 Jack Nicklaus Award as the Golf Coaches Association of America Junior College Player of the Year, and named 2010 NJCAA Division I winner of Phil Mickelson Award as nation's most outstanding Junior College freshman.  

Ancer continued his golf career at Oklahoma University where he finished second in OU history in career scoring average, sits third on OU's career list with 352 birdies in his three seasons, and tied for third all-time at OU with 10 career eagles. 

Ancer earned his PGA Tour Card in 2015 and won the 2018 Emirates Australian Open and the 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational for his first PGA Tour career victory. Throughout his time on the PGA Tour, Ancer has participated in the Masters Tournament, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and the Open Championship.  


Chase Seiffert | Central Alabama Community College 

Chase Seiffert was a member of the Central Alabama Men's Golf Team from 2010-11. Seiffert earned NJCAA All-America honors in 2010 and finished his second season with a 73.79 scoring average. In 2011, Seiffert and the team tied for eighth place at the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, a second-place team finish at the district championship and earned a second-place individual finish. Seiffert also won the individual title by five strokes at the 2011 NJCAA Region XXII Championship. 

After CACC, Chase was awarded a golf scholarship at Florida State University and competed for the Seminoles for the next two years before turning professional and ultimately earning his PGA Tour Card. While at Florida State, Seiffert won the 2012 Florida State Am, 2012 Florida State Match Play, 2012 Florida Open, 2012 Oglethorpe Am, and was named the 2012 Florida Player of the Year. 


David Johnson | Blinn College (TX) 

David Johnson came to Blinn with more than 30 years of collegiate coaching experience, helping launch the Blinn College men's and women's golf programs in 2019. Prior to Blinn, Johnson spent the 2018-19 season coaching men's golf at NCAA Division II Cameron University, where the Aggies placed fourth at the Lone Star Conference Championship. The majority of Johnson's career has been spent coaching two-year college athletic programs. He spent 11 seasons as the men's golf coach at Paris Junior College, including one as athletic director. 

Johnson currently serves as the secretary for the NJCAA Men's Golf Association, a position he also held for two years while at Paris. He has served as an NJCAA All-America nomination committee member and was a voting member for the Golf Week Magazine NJCAA poll and for the NJCAA national poll. He also was a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America. 

Other tenures include coaching football and golf at Cisco Junior College and Howard Payne University and coaching football at Hardin-Simmons University. While at Howard Payne, he launched a new golf program. 


Gary Mullett | Springfield Tech Community College (MA) 

Gary Mullet has served as the Springfield Tech Community College men's golf coach for 37 years. During his tenure, Mullet has coached the program to six New England Championships and produced eight All-Americans. During his undergrad, Mullet was a member of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst golf team. 

Mullet helped secure two grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) that helped enable Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) to strengthen two educational programs that prepare students for jobs in the high technology sector. 


Jason Hyatt | College of DuPage (IL) 

Jason Hyatt has been at the helm of the Chaparrals men's golf program for 19 seasons. During his tenure, Hyatt has coached the Chaparrals to nine NJCAA Region 4 titles (2003-2004, 2012-14, 2016-2017, 2019, 2021) and 30 All-Americans. With 20 regional titles in its history, Hyatt has played a role in 11 of those championship teams as a player or coach. 

Hyatt played two seasons of golf for the Chaparrals and is the most honored player in school history. He won the NJCAA Division III championship in 1998 for the Chaps and played on their national championship teams in 1997 and 1998.

Hyatt was honored in September 2019 with his induction into the College of DuPage Athletics Hall of Fame, becoming the first in his sport to be so honored. 


Dennis Chattin | Vincennes University (IN) 

Dennis Chattin has coached the men's golf program at Vincennes University for 19 seasons. His program has been crowned national champions three times, winning NJCAA titles in 2013, 2016, and 2018. Under his leadership, the Trailblazers have posted other significant finishes at national championship tournaments, placing third, fifth, and seventh. championships. His teams won the Region 12 tournament six times and were runner-ups a number of years as well.   

Coach Chattin has been honored to have 10 NJCAA All-Americans play under him to date. He has won the NJCAA Coach of the Tournament at the national event three times and has won the NJCAA Region 12 Coach of the Year honor six times.
