Charlotte, NC - Following the 2022 NJCAA Convention held in Birmingham, AL, from April 11-15, the NJCAA Board of Regents passed a number of amendments to enhance the national championship experience. The following changes were made for DI and DII men's and women's basketball.
Division I Men's and Women's Basketball
The NJCAA DI Men's and Women's Basketball Committees approved proposals to implement media timeouts throughout the national tournaments in accordance with NCAA rules. This proposal will take effect beginning with the 2023 national tournaments.
Division II Men's and Women's Basketball
The NJCAA DII Men's and Women's Basketball Committees approved proposals to expand the national tournament to a 20-team bracket. The national tournament will feature 16 automatic district qualifiers with an additional four at-large selections. The new tournament format will add six games and one additional day of competition to the national tournament. The expanded national tournament field will take effect during the 2023-24 season. The 2022-23 championships will be played under the current 16-team format from March 21-25 with the men's tournament taking place at the Mary Miller Center in Danville, IL while the women's tournament will be held at the St. Clair County Community College Fieldhouse in Port Huron, MI.
