Herkimer second basemen Caccamise named DIII Defensive Player of the Year

Charlotte, NC - Herkimer (NY) second baseman Kyle Caccamise has been named the 2022 NJCAA DIII Baseball Defensive Player of the Year.

Caccamise was a glue guy for the national champion Generals this season at second base. The sophomore finished the season with a .980 fielding percentage and finished with two errors on the season. At second base, Caccamise finished the year with 56 putouts and 41 assists. These efforts awarded him the 2022 NJCAA DIII Baseball ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

During the World Series, Caccamise was a key piece for the Generals by making impressive stop after impressive stop. These efforts helped earn Herkimer its first national title in school history.

Caccamise was also a strong bat in the General lineup and finished the season with a .410 batting average and 40 RBI. The 2022 NJCAA DIII Baseball World Series saw the sophomore have three multi-hit games. In the semifinal game against Dallas-Eastfield (TX) Cassamise put together a three-hit performance and five assists in the field.

"Kyle was like having another coach on the field. His knowledge of the game and performance were a pleasure to watch over his two years here. I was never worried when the ball was hit his way and we wanted the ball in his hands when a big throw had to be made."
