No. 2 Harford Tops Men's Lacrosse, 14-9

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team fell to visiting No. 2 Harford Community College, 14-9, Tuesday evening at Siegert Field. The Riverhawks were paced by Trevor Collier with five goals and an assist.

Sam Weisshaar had two goals and two assists, while John Thibodeau added three assists.

Despite falling behind, 5-0, after the first quarter, the Riverhawks adapted to a quick strike approach to counter the Owls' lengthy possessions. This proved fruitful as AACC scored its first five goals in transition.

Collier put the Riverhawks on the board late in the second quarter, finishing off a pass from Thibodeau at x behind. Bobby Ruel and Weisshaar ended the half with back-to-back goals. Ruel followed through a lengthy battle for possession off the faceoff, fighting for the groundball before carrying it all the way in on his own. Collier found Weisshaar all alone on the right side of the cage after the next faceoff for Weisshaar's first goal of the night, cutting the Owls' lead to 8-3 at the half.

Weisshaar returned the favor to open the third, picking up a groundball off a turnover before carrying up the right and crossing to Collier for the finish. Francis O'Hara was the beneficiary of a Weisshaar centering pass with 6:43 left in the third, whipping an underhand shot past the Owls' goalie for the Riverhawks' closest margin, 10-6.

Harford got one back to end the third before Collier opened the fourth with an unassisted strike, coming in from behind the cage. The Owls edged ahead by 6 with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart before the Riverhawks potted the next two, both set up by Thibodeau.

First, he found a cutting Weisshaar in front for a point-blank goal with 5:30 left, and then with a two-man advantage for a minute, Thibodeau found Collier on the left wing for an open lane shot with 2:18 left.

Ruel finished 5-14 at the faceoff x, while Mark Kelm went 6-for 13. The AACC defense recorded 11 caused turnovers, led by three from Connor Bittner. Mike Rogers, Brandon Grusholt, and O'Hara each had two. Bittner and O'Hara each added four groundballs in the Riverhawks' highest output of 43 in conference play this season.

AACC netminder Conner Westervelt made 16 saves, including six each in the first and third quarters.

The Riverhawks are back in action right away, traveling to Potomac State Wednesday, April 7, for a 4 pm game, before facing College of Southern Maryland at home on April 11.
