The Fighting Tigers live up to their name

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Fighting Tigers lived up to their name last night.  Down to the LaGrange College JV by two sets, the Andrew team fought back to win the next three sets and the match.  The freshmen scoring duo of Tara Rogers and Ayreon Oliver accumulated 32 of the 45 kills between them; Rogers putting down 18 while Oliver added 14 more.  The rest of the team did an awesome job supplying the ammunition for these two.  Captain Savannah Risen (So.) made a solid contribution offensively with 7 kills and defensively with 16 digs.  Captain Cara Tafoya (So.) led the team defensively with 20 digs, followed closely by Freshman Barrett Earnest with 19 digs. Earnest also provided an additional 8 kills.  Setter Brandi Minix (Fr), with 45 assists, controlled the tempo of the match, enabling the hitters to put points on the board.

Led by the smart and defensive serving of Grace Phillips, the Fighting Tigers came from behind 11-14 to take control of the last set, winning it 16-14, and taking the match (25-27, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 16-14).  Coach Rountree said "it took a total team effort and a lot of fortitude to walk away on top of this one.  These athletes fought a great fight".

You can catch the Fighting Tigers in action again this Friday, September 25.  They will take on Gulf Coast State College at 7:00, in their own Jinks Gym.
