Baseball Splits with Weatherford

Tyler Junior College split a doubleheader with Weatherford College, winning the opener 6-2 before falling 7-5 in the second game on Wednesday at Mike Carter Field.

It was only the second loss this season for the Apaches (15-2).

In Game 1, Jacob French pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run with nine strikeouts.

TJC scored three runs in the bottom of the second on a bases-loaded walk by Anthony Soriano and RBI single from Jacob Soisson. Connor Wrye also came home after reaching on an error.

TJC tacked on three more runs in the sixth on a three-run double by Soriano.

The rest was taken care of by French, who scattered seven hits for the victory.

In Game 2, five Coyotes pitchers combined to do enough to thwart TJC's comeback efforts.

Weatherford led 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth when the Apaches rallied to score four runs, but that was all. Eric Stegent had a double and two RBIs while Soriano stole two bases in the loss.
