Bears Win by 30 to Begin New Year

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas -- Dallas College Brookhaven men's basketball team beat Loyalty College Prep, 78-48, Tuesday in the first game back fro the holiday hiatus.

The Bears, who are receiving votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings, improved to 10-7. 

Three Bears scored in double figures. Jackson Lino hit 50 percent of his field goal attempts, going 8 of 16 from the floor, to finish with a season-high 21 points and 14 rebounds, and added two steals. It was the third straight double-double for the sophomore forward. Lino had a season-high eight offensive rebounds.

Grant Jessen had 16 points on 7 of 11 shooting and eight rebounds and two steals. Khaleel Thomas finished with 11 points, four steals and three assists. It was the second time this season Thomas reached double figures. Zach Gomez had five assists and five points. Curtis Trey Moffett and Jon-Michael Johnson each scored eight points. Johnson grabbed five of Brookhaven's 39 rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Talmadge Smith had five points and three assists.

The Bears scored 39 points in both halves, and held Loyalty to 25 or fewer in both.

Brookhaven will host Dallas Christian College 1 p.m. Saturday in the second of four straight home games.
