Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 1 Harford in Region XX Semis

BEL AIR, MD – Top ranked Harford dealt the Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team a 23-9 loss in the NJCAA Region XX semifinals Wednesday evening at Harford Stadium. Sam Weisshaar led AACC with three goals and a pair of assists.

John Thibodeau added two goals and an assist, while Francis O'Hara scored twice. CJ Thacker and Jacob Kotelchuck added single strikes for the Riverhawks. Sam Barrett and Julian Nobis picked up assists.

The Fighting Owls scored eight goals in the first quarter and expanded their lead to nine before Thibodeau planted a man-up goal early in the second to put AACC on the board. A little over 90 seconds later, Weisshaar scored his first of the game to cut Harford's lead to seven.

The Owls then went on a five-goal spree, stopped by Weisshaar's second of the night with a little over a minute left in the half. Harford potted one more to carry a 15-3 lead into halftime.

The teams traded three goals apiece through the third, seeing O'Hara, Kotelchuck and Weisshaar all find the back of the net.

The teams continued to trade goals through the fourth, with Harford scoring the final two for the 23-9 final.

Conner Westervelt made 14 saves in the game, including eight in the first quarter.

Harford led the groundball battle, 35-24, and forced 17 of AACC's 28 turnovers. Mark Kelm and Nick Barton split the faceoff duties, with Kelm finishing 8-for-24 and Barton 8-for-10.

The Riverhawks struggled to clear the ball, finishing the night 14-23 in clears. AACC scored one man-up goal in five opportunities; Harford finished 2-for-4 man up.
