Highland, KS – The Highland Men's basketball team recorded win number 20 on the season improving to 20-6 after defeating Labette Community College 91-69.
Taiveyhon Mason knocked down a three pointer .26 seconds into the game and the Scotties never looked back. The hot shooting of the Scotties was back in action Saturday afternoon as HCC shot the ball 67% from the floor and 75% from three in the first half.
Highland held the Cardinals to just 28% shooting in the first half taking a 12-point, 41-29 lead into the break.
By the media timeout in the second half, Highland had built an 18-point lead over Labette after three pointers from
Dylan Owen and
Ryan Haskins.
Labette wouldn't get any closer than 18-points and after baskets from
Leland Harvey and
Holden Redparth, Highland had built a 29-point lead with 2:27 left. The Scotties went onto win by 22-points, 91-69.
Taiveyhon Mason &
Jaylin Rutherford led the Scottie in scoring with 18 points each. Mason finished with three assists and two steals. Rutherford's 18 points was a season high for him. He also grabbed three rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
The Highland bench had a strong performance scoring 41 points.
Kevin Perry's 13 points was a new season and career high. Perry also had five rebounds and two blocks on the day.
Holden Redparth finished with 12 points and five rebounds while
Alonzo Williams posted 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Highland finished shooting 58% from the floor and 44% from three-point range going 8-18. They out-rebounded the Cardinals by 10 and forced 16 turnovers.
Highland is now 20-6 overall, 4-1 in KJCCC and 5-1 in Region VI play. They will head to Johnson County Community College on Wednesday, February 14
th looking to avenge their only home loss of the season losing to the Cavaliers by two-points in the final seconds of a game on January 27
th. That game is set to tip-off at 7:30pm.
