Women's Basketball Finishes Season as District Runner-Up

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team fell 78-75 to Western Tech on Sunday afternoon, finishing the season as the North Plains District Runner-Up.

The Golden Rams fought back from a 15 point deficit in the second quarter with a 7-0 run to end the half down 38-30.

Adaya Sandifer started the third quarter with a three to pull within five, but Western Tech responded with a 12-5 run to go back up by 12 points.

Anoka-Ramsey used a 11-3 run of their own to get back within four points, 53-49 with 3:36 to go in the third.

Once again the Cavaliers had an answer, finishing the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 60-49 lead into the final period.

Trailing 61-51, Sandifer knocked down a three, got a steal at halfcourt that she turned into a layup, then after Charo Nickens poked the ball away at halfcourt Sandifer went in for another layup and suddenly Anoka-Ramsey was within three 61-58.

Western Tech maintained the lead and went ahead by six, 73-67 with 1:27 to play.

Raiyne Adams made two free throws to get Anoka-Ramsey within four, then a Sandifer layup made it a two point game with 43 seconds left.

Western Tech made one of two free throws for a three point lead, but Nickens was fouled and made both foul shots to pull the Golden Rams within 74-73 with 20 seconds to go.

After a Golden Ram foul Western Tech made two more free throws, and Adams finished a layup with four seconds left to make it a 76-75 game.

Western Tech again made two free throws to go back up by three, and without any timeouts the Golden Rams' last attempt to tie was off the mark.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 37.7 percent overall and 11 of 32 from three while forcing 22 turnovers.

Nickens scored 25 points on 8 of 10 shooting to go with eight rebounds and six steals.

Sandifer finished with 24 points and five steals.

Adams scored 13 points.

The Golden Rams finish the season 19-7 overall.
