Women's Basketball was up to the challenging task on Saturday afternoon, as they took down their red-hot conference rival Jackson State 76-66. Cleveland State now sits at 5-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Lady Green Jays were 9-0 overall and 4-0 in TCCAA play before the Lady Cougars handed them their first loss of the season in the game today.
The Lady Cougars never gave Jackson State an edge at any point of the game. The Lady Green Jays led by 1 at the very beginning of the contest, but after that, Cleveland State stormed away, leading by as many as 20 points, a lead which came at the 1:34 mark of the second quarter.
Four Lady Cougars found themselves in double-figures on the evening. Asjah Harrell led the team in points for the second straight game, scoring 23, while also recording a career-high seven steals, four assists, and three boards. Za'kkria Robinson was a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Charisma Barner and Cassidy Nihoff had 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Cleveland State will travel to Lookout Mountain, Ga. on Wednesday for a matchup with Covenant College JV in their next contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 ET.
