NIACC's Canton earns 2 top 10 finishes
STORM LAKE - NIACC freshman Bryson Canton earned two top-10 finishes at the NJCAA Region XI indoor track and field championships Saturday on the Buena Vista campus.
Canton placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 36.41 seconds. Canton was also sixth in the 600 in a time of 1:24.22, which is the eighth fastest time in school history.
Also for the Trojans at the regional meet, freshman Fabian Steene was third in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches, which tied his indoor school record.
NIACC's Perez Hemmings was eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.99). Bruce Huggins was ninth in the 400 (52.52).
NIACC's Vlad Starrett was ninth in the mile in a time of 4:53.14. Jacob Vais was 10th in the 800 (2:02.69).
NIACC placed fifth in the distance medley relay in a time of 11:47.57. The Trojans ran Starrett, Alfred Kiptoo, Hugo Massa and Chris Marquardt.
The Trojans were sixth in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:30.27. The Trojans ran Dylan Novak, Massa, Huggins and Canton.
NIACC tied for fifth with 25 points. Iowa Central was the regional champion with 271 points and Iowa Western was second with 222 points.
