Men’s, Women’s Basketball Teams Enter Region 20 Division III Tournament Weekend As No. 1 Seeds

The Prince George's Community College men's (5-0) and women's (4-0) basketball teams finished the 2021-22 regular season undefeated against Region 20 Divisional opponents and as a result, have secured the number one seed for the upcoming tournament hosted by Anne Arundel Community College on February 18th-20th.

Four other programs entered the men's tournament; No. 2 seeded Anne Arundel, No. 3 Westmoreland, No. 4 Pennsylvania Highlands, and No. 5 Butler County. Butler's Pioneers and Penn Highland's Black Bears will begin the tournament on Friday, February 18th in a play-in game at 5 PM. The winner will face Prince George's the following day at 2:30 PM in the first semi-finals game.

The Owls defeated the Black Bears on the road on January 14th, 76-62 after Penn Highlands came to within one point of Prince George's late in the second half before the Owls pulled away. Prince George's beat Butler later on January 30th inside Novak Field House in a 116-54 rout over the Pioneers. 

On the women's side Butler enters as the No. 2 seed and Anne Arundel rounds out the three. The Lady Owls earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of the Riverhawks and Pioneers in the championship game on Sunday, February 20th at 12 o'clock. The Owls, who were most recently promoted to the No. 9 ranked program in NJCAA Division III women's basketball, beat Anne Arundel 68-39 in Novak Field House on November 19th and downed Butler County 74-51 at home on January 30th

Admission to the tournament is $5 for general admission, $3 for students with ID, and free for kids age 12 and under. Re-entry is permitted throughout the day. Tickets are available at the gate using a credit card or cash. 

A limited number of commemorative long sleeve t-shirts will be available for purchase using credit card or cash.

Parking for the tournament is free in lots M and D. Handicap parking is available adjacent to Jenkins Gym.

Masks covering both nose and mouth are required inside all buildings at AACC regardless of vaccination status.
