Lady Commodores Play Big But Come Up Just Short

November 8, 2015 - LCCC Lady Commodores Basketball team fell short Sunday afternoon as they hosted Point Park's JV team. After a fast start, the Lady Commodores were unable to pull out the win as they fell 84-68.

Match Recap
Much like Friday night, the Lady Commodores came out of the gate quick and jumped out to an early 12-0 lead. With the hot hand, Emily Capers had a first-half team high of 10 points and six rebounds. Along with Emily, Brandi Holowecky contributed 8 points and six rebounds of her own.

At the end of the first quarter, LCCC held a 21-15 lead and held Point Park to just 24 percent on 4-17 shooting. Forcing 11 first-half turnovers, the Commodores couldn't maintain the hot hand as their shooting went cold at 24 percent. Unable to slow Point Park down in the second quarter, Point Park was able to outscore LCCC 24 to eight to go into the half.

Coach Granito was unhappy with his team giving up so many first-half fast-break points. "We gave up a lot of points just on fast breaks. We have to learn to get back better, otherwise this is what will happen," said Coach Granito.

The third quarter was a much better played quarter for the Lady Commodores as they were able to win the quarter 17-16 lead by Onyx Lopez who caught the hot hand in the second half of play ending the night with 22 points. With a big second half by Brandi Holowecky as well who ended the night with 19 points and 13 rebounds, the Commodores stuck around as long as they could. In the end, the Lady Commodores didn't have enough gas to pull of the win as they fell short 84-68.
