Phoenix Bears Women's Soccer Win DII National Championship

Tucson, AZ - The Phoenix Bears women's soccer team have won the 2022 NJCAA Div. II National Championship over Holmes (MS), 4-0.

The No. 2 seeded Bears started off the tournament by winning both of their pool play matches against No. 11 South Suburban (IL), 7-1, and No. 7 Southwestern Illinois, 5-1. They then defeated Northwest Mississippi, 2-0, in the semifinals to advance to the championship match on Saturday night.

Phoenix scored two goals in each half, with Ariana Leamons scoring twice in the first half and assisting on both goals in the second half to Zalma Torres and Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta. Goalkeeper Jennifer Alvillar had five saves and played all 90 minutes of the match.

This is the Bear's second national title in three years.
