The Virginia Peninsula Community College baseball team had 29 runs and 29 hits to sweep a Region 10 doubleheader at Rockingham Community College (N.C.) on April 12. The Gators won the first game 21-7 and took the second 8-3.
Jayden Alvarez (Woodside/Newport News) had six hits, including three doubles, and drove in four runs in the two games. Aidan Feather (Grassfield High School/Chesapeake) added four hits, including a home run and double, and drove in five runs. Israel Dozier (Kempsville/Virginia Beach) contributed four hits, drove in six runs, and scored four times. Brendan Walker (Lancaster) had four hits and scored three times.
On the mound, Logan Contreraz (Deep Creek/Chesapeake) earned the win in Game 1, going five innings and scattering nine hits and four runs (all earned). He struck out four. Damien Allen (Pine Forst/N.C.) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and gave up just two hits and one unearned run. In the second game, Zack Easton (Hermitage/Richmond) got the win. He pitched six innings and gave up three hits and two runs. He struck out seven.
VPCC (12-25, 9-9) went for the series sweep Sunday but could muster only three singles and one run in a 10-1 loss.
The Gators close out the home portion of their schedule April 19 with a doubleheader against Paul D. Camp Community College at War Memorial Stadium. The first game starts at noon. The two play a single game the day before at Camp.
