Jayhawks Picks Up Road Win at Jefferson

WATERTOWN – The Jamestown Community College men's basketball team traveled north Saturday afternoon to face Jefferson Community College, grinding out a 74-66 win.

 

The Jayhawks (1-12) were powered behind a big performance from Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) getting his third double-double of the season with 18 points and 15 rebounds (4 offense, 11 defense). Jafar Yahuza (Staten Island, NY/Port Richmond) also had 18 points with Clinique Jackson (Rochester, NY/East HS) adding 15 points in the effort.

 

The defense was active and pressure the Cannoneers' offense as Jackson had five steals while Kareem O'Brian (West Babylon, NY/North Babylon HS) adding four steals on the afternoon.

 

Jamestown got out to a 36-31 lead at halftime and carried the momentum over in the second half, outscoring Jefferson 38-34.

 

The Jayhawks went 26-for-67 (38.8 percent) from the field with the Cannoneers shooting 21-for-57 (36.8 percent) from the floor. The Jayhawks held the slight edge on the boards, out rebounding Jefferson 42-38.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they face Herkimer College tomorrow for a 12:30 p.m. tip.
