
GALLATIN, TN – No. 4 Walters State clinched their 20th TCCAA Regular Season Title in program history on Friday, taking 11-0 and 9-2 wins over Volunteer State.
With the sweep, the Senators improved to 43-6-1 overall and 22-5 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: No. 4 Walters State 11, Volunteer State 0 (5 Innings)
In game one, Aiden Robertson threw a complete game shutout while Tyler Myatt smacked a grand slam.
Robertson (10-1) allowed just two hits and struck out 10 batters. Robertson now has 96 strikeouts on the season, adding to his NJCAA lead.
Meanwhile, Myatt's grand slam was his 22nd home run of the season. Along with Myatt, Kenny Cox had two hits and drove in three runs while Taylor Harris had two doubles and two RBIs.
Harris got Walters State on the board in the second inning, doubling to left to score Walker Morgan. In the third, the Senators put four more runs on the board as Cox doubled in two runs, Jack Torbett flew out but scored Holden Pantier and Harris doubled to score Cox and make it 5-0.
Following a run in the fourth on an error that made it a 6-0 game, the Senators put the game away in the top of the fifth. Walters State loaded the bases in the inning and, after Jack Vogele walked to score Harris, Myatt sent a ball over the fence in left-center that made it 11-0.
Those runs were plenty for Robertson who struck out one in the first, two in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.
GAME TWO: No. 4 Walters State 9, Volunteer State 2
In game two, Myatt homered again while Carson Cabbage also homered and drove in four runs.
For the season, Myatt now has 23 home runs to go with 88 RBIs. He leads the country in both categories.
Along with Myatt and Cabbage, Pantier had a double and two RBIs in game two.
On the mound, Gage Peterson (7-2) got the start and threw five innings. Peterson allowed one run on three hits and struck out eight. Jace Kirby replaced him in the sixth and struck out one in the hitless inning, before Rowan Park allowed a run on two hits in the seventh.
The Senators opened things up with a five-run first inning, as Kole Fenton singled, Vogele walked, Myatt walked, Pantier scored Fenton and Vogele with a two-RBI double and Cabbage drove the rest in with a three-run home run.
Walters State increased their lead in the second, as Myatt slugged a home run way over the fence in right to make it 7-0. The Pioneers got on the board with a run in the fourth, but Cabbage doubled in a run in the fifth and Myatt doubled home a run in the sixth to make it 9-1. Vol State got one more run in the seventh, but that was all.
