
Garden City hosts second annual Broncbuster Invite
On Friday the Broncbusters hosted the 2nd annual Garden City Broncbuster Invite and while the meet got condensed to a dual meet with Dodge City, it did not stop the Broncbusters from having solid performances.
Women:
The throwers squad had the highlight of the day as they swept the Hammer Throw, Shot Put, and Discus events. In the Hammer, Serena Degollado won the event with a massive personal best throw of 45.21m (148'4"). Her performance was a national qualifying mark and currently places her 7th in the nation for the event. Cloe Kalanick (44.12m) and Beatriz Ferreira (43.50m) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively, both setting personal best and further improving their national qualifying marks as well as Heidy Aguilar having a personal best throw of 37.65m; good enough for 4thplace. In the Shot Put, Beatriz Ferreira placed 1st with a mark of 12.68m (41'7.25"). Serena Degollado (2nd, 11.76m) and Cloe Kalanick (3rd, 11.45m) both had personal best performances. Despite the wind picking up during the Discus, Cloe Kalanick placed 1st with a mark of 34.36m (112'9"). Beatriz Ferreira placed 2ndwith a mark for 33.17m and Serena Degollado was close behind with a mark of 32.97m.
Kerrishma Williams took 1st in the High Jump, clearing 1.47m (4'9.75"). She also followed up that with another first place finish in the long jump, jumping a mark of 4.88m (16'0.25").
Kanya Campbell won the 100 meter dash with a new personal best time of 12.75.
As the wind started to pick up throughout the afternoon, the Broncbusters came away with some more event winners. Sara Chapa won the 400m dash with a time of 1:09.52. Shareen Cheruiyot took 1st in the 5000 meter with a time of 21:06.75. The 4x100 Relay (Canini, White Eagle, Chapa, Campbell) took first with a time of 53.40. the 4x800 (Serrano, Cheruiyot, Clemens, Burkhart) took first with a time of 11:26.40.

Men:
Biggest highlight from the meet was the sprint squad sweeping the 100, 200, and 400 meter events. Quinjerus Miles won the 100m with his first sub 11 second performance, clocking in a personal best time of 10.93. Teammates Adama Faye was close behind with his first sub 11 performance, clocking in a 10.97 as well as Jacob Romero placed 3rd with a time of 11.24. Quinjerus Miles followed up his 100m performance with another first place finish in the 200m, clocking in a time of 23.07. Teammates Jacob Romero (23.82) and Lemar Oubre (24.24) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Johnny Harris led the Broncbuster sweep in the 400m, clocking in a time of 51.89 in windy conditions. Teammates Etienne James (52.26), Lemar Oubre (53.91) and Chauncey Ramirez (54.92) rounded out the sweep, all setting personal best in the process.
Ricardo Mijares and Zaccerie Penka battled the strong winds to go 1-2 in the 5000 meter run, clocking in a time of 18:11.84 and 18:42.88.
4x800m Relay (James, Veloz, Penka, Oubre) won the event with a time of 9:04.15.
Edwin Rodriguez won the High Jump with a new personal best of 1.93m (6'4"), beating out nationally ranked Brayden Bergkamp of Dodge City.
Zane Burns won the Javelin with a throw of 45.16m (148'2"), setting a new personal best in the event.
Chris Leatherman and Zane Burns went 1-2 in the Pole Vault, both setting season best performances of 2.75m (9'0.25") and 2.00m (6'6.75") respectively.
Adama Faye and Edwin Rodriguez went 1-2 in the Long Jump. Faye won the event with a mark of 6.51m (21'4.25") and Rodriguez placed 2nd with a new personal best of 6.24m.
