Indoor Track & Field Competes at Washburn Open

Northwest Tech Indoor Track & Field return after competing at the Washburn Open this past weekend. The Mavericks qualified four athletes in three events with one PR.

"I am very pleased with the results of the meet," commented Coach Kiptoo. "We continue to make progress each meet, improving our times and results. The plan now is to get as many athletes qualified for nationals as possible next week and continue to train for Regionals."

 

Sprints & Field Events

In the 60-Meter Prelims, Marcus Purcell and Jaysaun Smith placed 23rd and 24th, with times of 7.014 and 7.016 seconds. Derrick Harbin also competed, coming in 29th with a time of 7.10 seconds. 

In the 200-Meter Dash, Marcus Purcell came in 2nd overall with a time of 21.56 seconds, qualifying him for Nationals. Derrick Harbin placed 20th with a time of 21.95 sec. Jaydon Moore also competed, placing 46th with a time of 22.40 seconds. 

In the 400-Meter Dash, Jaysuan Smith placed 17th overall with a time of 49.43 seconds. In the 600-Yard Dash, Tajairus Brown competed for the Mavs, coming in 25th with a time of (1:32.69). In Men's Relays, Tech placed 23rd in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of (3:29.27).

In Men's Pole Vault, Brayden Shaw competed for the Mavericks, placing 3rd with a vault of 4.00 meters (13-01.50 ft).

 

Long & Middle Distance 

In the Men's Mile, Peter Kipkemboi placed 8th, qualifying for Nationals with a time of (4:17.22). Just behind him was Raphael Kitur in 9th place with a time of (4:19.06). Also competing in the Mile was Brian Kiptoo, coming in 12th place with a time of (4:20.38).

In the Men's 5000-Meter, Peter Kipkemboi placed 2nd with a personal best time of (14:30.99). Coming in 5th place was Raphael Kitur with a time of (14:44.80). Just behind was Brian Kiptoo in 6th with a time of (14:55.44). All three runners are ranked in the top 10 nationally. Also competing in the race was Brian Kipkosgei, coming in 37th with a time of (16:49.19).

 

Tech's next event will be at Washburn again for the Ichabod Invitational on February 10th in Topeka, KS.
