T-Bird Men and Women Qualify in DMR

The NMJC men's and women's track and field teams had a successful trip competing at the Region V Multi and DMR Invite in Levelland, Texas Jan. 19-20.

The Thunderbird women nationally qualified in the distance medley relay (DMR) with a NJCAA leading time of 12:45.02. The quartet consisted of Letlhogonolo Magoro running the 1200m in 3:47.30, Mickaliliah Vassell breezing through the 400m in 57.30, Vanessa Gallegos finishing the 800m in 2:25.30, and Damaris Chewon running the 1600m in 5:34.30.

Aaliyah Lindsay competed in the pentathlon for the Thunderbirds scoring 3040 points. The sophomore earned a national qualifying mark in the long jump portion of the pentathlon leaping 18'10".

The T-Bird men also nationally qualified in the distance medley relay (DMR) with a NJCAA second-best time of 10:23.48. The four runners were made up of German Vega running the 1200m in 3:11.90, Aymane El Haddaoui finishing the 400m in 47.83, Evans Pololet breezing through the 800m in 1:52.40, and Tomas Vega finishing the 1600m with a time of 4:31.00. 

The T-Birds will compete next in the University of New Mexico Indoor Team Open in Albuquerque, NM Jan. 27-28.
