Scheepers Three Goals Lifts Cougars to Comeback Win

CANANDAIGUA, NY… Three goals from sophomore Diante Scheepers and a game winning goal from Ashley Hearn gives the Genesee Community College women's soccer team a 4-3 comeback win over the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers Wednesday afternoon.

After giving up a pair of goals less than four minutes apart, Diante Scheepers scored her first goal on the afternoon to cut the Lakers lead to 2-1. Finger Lakes would enjoy a 3-1 lead at halftime. In the second half, Scheepers would score to make it 3-2 with the assist from Isabelle Porter. Scheepers would score the game-tying goal, her third of the match with less than ten minutes remaining in regulation. Ashley Hearn would score just 90 seconds later with the assist from Carleigh Folts to give Genesee a 4-3 lead and the Cougars would go on to the victory.

Reigning NJCAA Division III Goalkeeper of the Week Madison Papaj made three saves as she played the second half. Alexa Salatel made four saves in net for Genesee in the opening half.

The Cougars had 17 shots on net with Scheepers recording 11 of them. Julia Ashworth, Alexa Jordan, Autumn Ressue, Ashley Hearn, and Carleigh Folts all had shots on goal.

Genesee (9-4) returns home for their regular season home finale on Tuesday, October 15 at 4pm against WNYAC foe Mercyhurst Northeast.
