Lady Bears fall to Clarendon in their season opener

November 3, 2017 Women's Basketball

BRCC Lady Bears opened their season tonight at home in the wellness center versus Clarendon.  The Lady bears (0-1) lost to the Clarendon Bulldogs 79 to 61.  BRCC came out strong with a great defensive pressure that forced the Bulldogs into some tough shots.  The offense also came alive in the first half scoring 37 points.  The halftime score was BRCC Lady Bears 37 and the Clarendon Bulldogs 33.  It was a tail of two halves for the Lady Bears.  The first half, the Bears looked like teams of old, with the hard nose defense and the clutch offense, but the second half was a different story.  The Clarendon Bulldogs came out the locker room at halftime on fire from the 3 point line, and pulled away from the Bears. Clarendon also capitalized on the Lady Bears foul trouble, with 26 points coming from the free throw line.  The Lady Bears had 5 student athletes with 2 fouls in the first half and 4 athletes to finish the game with 4 fouls.

Highlights for the Lady Bears include sophomore guard Celica Sterling with 21 points 3 assist, 10 rebounds and 1 steal.  Another Lady Bears standout was freshman Kayla Watson, from Amite, Louisiana, with 17 points including 7/16 from the floor, 5 assist, 2 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Lady Bears will be back in action tomorrow Saturday November 4, 2017, at 1 pm against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

In another note the first game of the Lady Bears Classic went to the Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers, as they defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast 62 to 49.  The second day of the classic starts at 11 am tomorrow with a match up between the Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers and the Clarendon Bulldogs.
