Lady Wolves drop first game of the year to PRCC

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – The Lady Wolves dropped their first game of the year in the 2018-2019 MACJC opener to Pearl River Community College, 57-54. The Lady Wildcats' offensive rebounds gave them several extra chances, while Co-Lin struggled on the offensive end of the floor. The Lady Wolves are now 7-1 on the year and will face Delgado Community College in Mullen Gymnasium on Co-Lin's Wesson campus this Saturday, December 8 at 1 p.m. Fans can watch the action live at colinathletics.com or listen live at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

PRCC led early and never relinquished that lead, as Co-Lin was only able to tie the game on four occasions. The last tie, at 11-11, happened with just over three minutes left in the first quarter of play. The Lady Wolves stuck around for most of the second quarter with the help of Camyrn Davis and Sha'Quandra Carter but still went into the locker room trailing by one, 27-25.

The Lady Wildcats kept the momentum rolling in the third as they continued to find the basket on the offensive end of the floor while forcing contested shots on the defensive side of the ball. PRCC closed out the third with a 7-2 run to pull the lead to nine, 45-36.

Early in the fourth, the Lady Wildcats looked to run away with the game by stretching the lead to 13, 49-36, but Co-Lin refused to give in and came roaring back. The Lady Wolves hit three, three-pointers from Carter, T'Kyra Hicks, and Ciara Norwood to cut the lead back to just five, 55-50 with 2:55 left on the clock. Norwood rattled home a free throw and hit another three-pointer to cut PRCC's lead to one, 55-54, with just over a minute to play, but a pair of Lady Wildcat free throws late in the game secured the 57-54 victory.

Camryn Davis led the Lady Wolves with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Sha'Quandra Carter added 14 points. Both TaMara Riley, the reigning MACJC Player of the Week, and T'Kyra Hicks scored nine. Hicks and Darien Tubby both dished five assists while Azaria Magee came off the bench to secure eight rebounds.

Olivia Mosely led the Lady Wildcats with 19 points while Elexis Peyton led the team in rebounds with seven.

Co-Lin shot 33 percent (20-of-61) from the floor, 24 percent (8-of-34) from three-point range, and 67 percent (6-of-9) from the free throw line. The Lady Wildcats shot 29 percent (20-of-68) from the floor, 29 percent (7-of-24) from downtown, and 67 percent (10-of-15) from the stripe.
